Great paintings. Of interest the stained glass window and the tile. Favorites are Tissot, #18; Daret, #21, especially the soft femininity of Mary; Fra Bartolomeo, #30; Giotto, #40.
#4 by Mantegna inspired Giovanni Bellini (Mantegna’s brother-in-law) to paint a similar work, possibly few years later.

It is more crowed than the Mantegna work. Scholars believe that the model for Joseph was Bellini’s father, while other members of his family were used for the figures at right and left.

Ahhhh. Even given the painful subject, there is such beauty in the paintings. If I had to pick one that’s best of all, it would have to be:
12, 15, 17, 18, 24, 26, 42

I have been admiring the art everyday, but had an 72 hour work week and no time to comment.
The Tissot and the glass tie for first place...
Some of the Pharisees look grumpy in some of the art.
I wonder if they know that this babe will soon shake them down....
